JoEllen Electra Mays

Interview with JoEllen Electra Mays

OA: What is your favourite film of all time?

Jem: Most probably it would be Stanly Kubrick’s groundbreaking film, 2001: A Space Odyssey for its use of symbolic imagery and complete lack of spoken dialogue for the first twenty minutes of the film. The film was already old when I saw it for the first time as a teenager at a midnight matinee but, its impact was overwhelming and lasting. The profound sense of isolation was certainly something I could relate to and the illustration of abstract ideas through metaphorical imagery was right in my wheelhouse.
