Art and Music: Both these disciplines have been a part of my life from the beginning. I have been lucky, as they both have played such an integral part and made me what I am. Vision and soul come together in one package. I have been painting and teaching singing in schools for over forty years. I enjoy the freedom of expression in both these fields. Color is such an integral part of our lives. Our feelings, moods, what we wear, our likes and dislikes are all expressed with color. These are some of the subjects close to my heart which I try to express through my paintings and my music: The important things in life are to be a good human being, do your best for others, strive and never give up. Hope is eternal. A kind word, a helping hand, a smile, a loving look, care and warmth, forgiveness... the little things in life that make us happy and bring a song to our hearts. There is so much suffering in the world. Why can't we help one another and make the world a better place? Love one another instead of hate, be open, above-board, truthful, helpful and kind? I couldn't devote as much time as I would have liked to my painting, as I was busy bringing up my family though I had been exhibiting at the National Show for the last twentythree years. I worked as the Color Consultant for ICI Dulux Paints for over twenty years so I have had a lot of experience in the field of color. I paint imaginative compositions of how I see the world, how I want it to be. When I am happy, my colors are gay and gleaming. When I am thoughtful or sad, my colors are subdued or cool depending on the subject matter. I have done a series of black and white paintings as well. When I put my brush to canvas the painting develops as I go along. There is nothing pre-planned except, of course, my mood that ensures what colors I start with. I work mainly with children from the mainstream schools and also children with special needs who need our love and care so desperately. I teach them singing and we dance and exercise to music as well. To bring a gleam to their eyes and see their excitement when they hear the beat of the music is also one of my passions. There is a series of paintings I have done on " The Earth Mourns." That is also a subject close to my heart... the oppression of women in our society... the indignity they have to suffer, the lives that are lost for no reason, the agony and torture they go through all their lives with no hope for a better tomorrow. It is up to us to help, to make others aware of this need to make the world a better place to live in both for our generation and all the generations to come. The state of the world today, our environment and life’s journey... how we are all travelling in different directions but our destination is the same in the end. Now I have more time. I am still teaching but making up for lost time. I have been painting non-stop for the last three years and hope to continue for many more
