Background: Born in Kent, I grew up in a military family. My father was "posted" every 6 months to 2 years, both in the UK and abroad, so as a child, my toys virtually jumped by themselves into a packing box. However, this nomadic lifestyle instilled in me a love of travel, an understanding in how to "travel light" & a fascination for new & different cultures. Education: Training at school & college towards a career in graphic art, I also studied Law and later, Engineering. Circumstances dictated a career direction within Contract Law & Quality Engineering (with AutoCAD drawing), but I was later able to change career direction & to develop 3D Garden Design business. I have thus always worked creatively. However, I first produced unconstrained "art" whilst living in the South of France (for 7 years). The quality of the light there was inspirational & the plants & scenery were amazingly vibrant. These things enabled me to appreciate life in its truly colourful glory & to evolve further as an artist.
Art Concept: "ABSTRACT EMOTION" : My "concept" is simply to translate the mood, environs & emotion I’m feeling, at the precise moment I start a piece of work & to let colours & shapes express those things, in a tangible, visible form. Each piece I create is totally individual, with no set plan or design at the outset. As I touch the paper, as though unaided, the pieces develop their own personalities, ultimately reflecting the multi-facetted elements that exist within my feminine mind & body. Music has always been important in my life. I sang in operas (on stage as well as in the bath) and I have always loved dancing. It is thus not surprising to discover that music also inspires me to paint. Most recently, I have become completely captivated by the work of composer Philip Glass. The Hours, Mad Rush, Glassworks, Notes on a Scandal.... I listen to these as I work and it is as though the music takes control of my brush and I become a mere observer.
